Why do you say Part and Gomes will never do Swan Lake again? Is she leaving ABT? He says he'll remain a principal at ABT, even with the Mikhailovsky guest work.

As far as I know, she's staying. It's just that we haven't seen a Veronika/Marcelo Swan Lake in several years even though it is the most brilliant Odette-Odile/Siegfried that ABT can offer. Vishneva and Kent tend to try to monopolize Gomes and it seems that poor Veronika has been getting stuck with the least able partners for Swan Lake for quite a while. From a physical match up, Kent is most ideally suited to Cory Stearns, but she manages to escape dancing with him most of the time. They seem to work at the same understated dramatic level, too. Now it seems that Osipova and Semionova have set their sights on Gomes, too. Poor Veronika. Poor us.

Don't forget Gillian Murphy! I saw the Murphy/Gomes Swan Lake June 27 - truly spectacular. She has indicated she'll return for the 2013 Met season, although she's missing the fall City Center season. I also saw the Part/Stearns Swan June 25 and share the dismay of so many others that Stearns was promoted to principal. The highlight of that performance was Marcelo's Rothbart.

Gomes' Rothbart is the only thing I've found commercially available on DVD (from the 2005 Swan Lake at the Kennedy Center). It's so important to get his extraordinary performances recorded for posterity while he's in his prime. The Mikhailovsky, Mariinsky, and Royal will do us all a big favor if they record his performances there and release them on DVD.

Julie- amen! It absolutely kills me that ABT doesn't record ANYTHING! I don't understand it- how sad to be america's national dance company & yet most of the country gets to see almost nothing of these wonderful dancers.

The Gomes film project just met its goal of $30,000: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/293915341/marcelo-gomes-anatomy-of-a-male-ballet-dancer

Apparently the film should be done in July 2013. I'm looking forward to it!

Fabulous!!
