Due to Hurricane Sandy's ungainly pirouetting around Manhattan this week, Haglund got a wee bit behind on reading his various Mongolian newspapers. When it was finally safe enough to slosh out onto the front lawn here on 9th Avenue to pick up the rolled news, most of it was soaked to the core and the red rubberbands were cinched around the middles of the swollen rolls like Dolly Parton's belt after Thanksgiving Dinner.
Haglund loves his daily Mongolian newspapers; so, he brought the whole wet mess inside and laid the sheets over the two grand pianos to dry. Hours later while reassembling the sheets in numerical order, he spied a familiar face and the striking headline ABT-ЫН СУПЕР ОД САША РАДЕЦКИ А.АДАНЫ “ЖИЗЕЛЬ” БАЛЕТАД ГОЦОЛНО. It appears that САША РАДЕЦКИ Sascha Radetsky has snagged the role of Albrecht in Giselle with the Mongolian State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet in the upcoming season, and the folks in Ulaanbaatar are fairly excited about it. Well, who wouldn't be? He's all over the news there. One media source discovered who Sascha's wife is, and planted four pictures of her in an article about him! And there's a nice picture of Sascha as The Prodigal Son which he performed in addition to Albrecht and Basilio while he was a Principal dancer at The Dutch National Ballet.
Hopefully, something will turn up on YouTube after the performances - or on the Met stage.
