Only 59,000+ people have watched this
YouTube video of the exquisite Viviana Durante in the Rose
Adagio from the Royal Ballet's 1995 production of Sleeping Beauty. Haglund wishes that every Aurora would aspire to
be like Ms. Durante - just copy every detail without apology – she won't mind. The initial
soutenus w/supported developpes where the head turns to look up the arm are so,
so pretty. Her bourees around herself with the twisting, bending ecarte port de
bras are so clear, delicate, and perfectly beautiful. Her balances are remarkable without
being showy. Her eyes thank every prince who assists her and she engages all of
the other perfomers around her with her eyes and smile. Beauty, modesty, and elegance.
We don't need
leg-to-the-ear extensions or 4, 5, and 6 revolutions in supported pirouettes.
We just need the fairytale princess from the top of the head to the tip of the
toe. Come on, somebody out there can do it. We have two really crummy Sleeping
Beauty productions to look forward to this year, but that shouldn't keep us from
seeing a magical Aurora. Here, watch Viviana Durante:
