On Monday, ABT opens its production of Onegin while NYCB plans a timely announcement (pre-announced by NYT) that its Fall Gala will feature music from Tchaikovsky's Onegin with choreography by Peter Martins. The big news is that NYCB has engaged VALENTINO to design the costumes not just for Martins' piece but for all three ballets presented that evening! Rubies is on the bill that evening, but we'll just have to wait for tomorrow's announcement to learn the third one.
Damn.
Valentino.
That's good, NYCB, real good.
Now, for the Gala, if NYCB could just persuade Renee Fleming to sit on the edge of the stage in her nightie and sing her Letter Scene softly and then jump up and run around though a huge pile of fallen leaves, that would be Heaven.
