Miriam Miller is certainly a dancer to watch. But the only time I saw her, I didn't see the attraction. She is beautiful but her tallness slows her down. I've noticed that with all tall dancers including the men. I think we've reached the ceiling literally between looks and the integrity of the choreography.

I've read that Balanchine turned down one tall dancer during his years because he stated that he had no male dancers to partner her. Or maybe, just maybe, he didn't think her length would be conducive to the speed he needed to dance at tempo required by the composer. Suzanne Farrell was an outlier more than we will ever know.

Were you able to see Pacific Northwest Ballet this week? They were fabulous. Peter Boal is doing a great job leading them.

I agree with your assessment of Megan LeCrone in Episodes. In more lyrical pieces her control can seem stifling but this was so full of clarity that I was forced to re-assess how I felt about her. I think the little bit of arm wrestling between Ramasar and Miller in Agon will cease with more practice on her part. There are some hard changes in that pdd and they don't teach partnering all that well at SAB, imho. She's on her way up.

Yep, I think that the upcoming generation looks mighty promising.

I'm more of a fan of the petite soubrettes. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who remembers and loved Nichol Hlinka back in the day. There seems to be nothing on her anywhere on the interwebs, but I disgress.

Like melponeme_k stated above, I think long limbs get in the way more often than not. Overly tall dancers are very distracting.

Hi Gerry. At a La Sylphide performance, someone remarked to me that Indiana Woodward reminded him of Nichol Hlinka.

I agree that there are many outstanding up and coming young dancers in NYCB's corps. I missed seeing Miriam Miller's debut in the pas de deux, but I remember how amazing Wendy Whelan was in that role. Maria Kowrowsi, who is nothing if not tall and long of leg, is absolutely extraordinary in the pas de deux.
