For the past couple of years, Haglund has been talking up The Shed in the Hudson Yards Development, a one-of-a-kind performance and art space which will have its opening in 2019. This is the kind of ingenuity that will finally put New York on the map - we jest - but trust us, this place is going to be the talk of the art world as soon as it opens on the West Side of Manhattan where cool is being reinvented almost daily through stunning architecture and public art works.
While The Shed, itself, is still very much under construction, its organization is having several Prelude to The Shed showcase performances during the first half of May a block away at a temporary structure designed by Nigerian architect & urbanist Kunlé Adeyemi who is now based in Amsterdam.
And there will be dance.
William Forsythe has been commissioned to create a radical reimagining of the central duet from his 1987 In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated specially for the Prelude showcase. Forsythe's Pas de Deux Cent Douze will be included in programs performed 30 times between May 1st and May 13th.
Tickets became available to the general public today. They're free. If the site indicates that dates are unavailable, plug in the Promotional Code preludetix at the left.
People may also support The Shed by becoming a Shed Mover for only $10. This will allow early access to tickets and other information. Why not become part of a real art movement?
